18. Caminito del Rey to Estepona

Corey’s last day in the saddle!! Alas!

He has been a great riding companion…and probably deserves a medal for putting up with his mate’s Dad for three weeks! But we have rubbed along well…and no, it probably was not quite as easy as he thought it was going to be! Especially with that battery issue!!

On that subject…I decided to try and find a new battery and claim on the warranty when I get back! So emailed some places in Marbella……and yeeha…one shop had a replacement in stock!! So…a very minor detour was needed to pick it up!!

Anyway….an early start from our Posada (closed for breakfast too…until too late!)….so we knocked out 45kms before breakfast en route!

The ride today in itself not very interesting as we closed in on the Costa del Sol…with far too much if the day spent on a too-busy main road (something we have not really had to cope with so far!). But…..we passed some interesting towns….

…..and we certainly did enjoy two of the most delicious descents of the trip, both on super-smooth tarmac: A 20kms brake-less run down from the sierra….and then a 10km 50km/hr hurtle down into Marbella itself! Great fun…if you like that sort of thing!!

And so to the bike shop to buy the new battery (ouch!)…and then to the post office where I spend minutes waiting in line to post the old battery back to France! Only to be told…that no….they would nit accept a battery!! So…onto the back of my bike it went!! (Corey is training back up to Collioure…so thankfully can take it with him!!).

Then a 30km run along the coast…

…..to finish this segment of the trip in Estepona. Appropriately enough….our host was sitting waiting for us on the doorstep, beer and cigarettes in hand!! A perfect ending!!

What we saw of Marbella did not suggest it is a place I would choose to visit…but Estepona is lovely! So picturesque, with planted flower pots hanging on every wall. And a Booking.Com 9.8 house to stay in….for our four  nights!!!

Iain arrived just as we started on our first beers…so the handover party can begin!! (…should that have been a G instead of a D?….probably!!)
