12. Cartagena

A very relaxed day!

The sun struggled to emerge until the afternoon….and finally it warmed up nicely!! Fingers crossed that that is the end of the rain!!

But no worries…as we caught up on sleep, blog, washing etc etc.

Corey’s gut is playing up so he was pleased not to be far from the toilet! Too much water is my diagnosis!! For that is really the only difference in what we have both imbibed!

We have decided to change our route….so I spent a fair chunk of time on route-planning/accommodation finding. The original plan was to continue along the coast…but we have enjoyed our time better up in the hills (maybe its the weather?…for there has been no temptation to go swimming!!)…..so it will be cross-country to Granada to show Corey the Alhambra…and on through the mountains to our final stop on the coast..just past Marbella. Granada aside….it is a bit of an accommodation desert….so it will be interesting!

Cartagena itself is a lovely city. A port city…founded by the Romans…and strategically important ever since!

Now playing host to cruise ships…and lots of white-legged folk sporting walking sticks! But the city is big enough to cope without any issue.

Nice Roman remains (all completed buried until quite recently!)….but otherwise a good city in which to sit on our bum and let the world go by! Perfect!

Hi Neil, so enjoying your blogs and wonderful photos. It’s about 30 years since Andrew and I drove around some of the places you mention and so brings back happy memories.
