13. Cartagena to Puerto Lombreras

After an early start…

…..today we headed inland.

Through lots of citrus groves. St Clements…as oranges jostled with lemons.

And here…they are still picking oranges!

The sweet smell pervaded everywhere…but soon changed to the sweet smell of pigs!!

Piggeries everywhere! Probably not the best conditions for the pigs…but they do produce wonderful pork, and bacon, and ham, and chorizo, and salami…..yum!

The cycling today was not hard…but it was COLD.

And then….a few hours in…the rain started once again. After a dry day in Cartagena, we thought we had seen the last of it. But no! Not a drenching sort of rain…just a dampening rain. So not too problematic…but made the cold feel even colder!! Is this the last of it???

We pulled into Puerto Lambreros relatively early…and struggled with more electronic locks at our hostal (what is wrong with old-fashioned keys!?)…but the neighbour helpfully allowed us to keep our bikes in the shop next door!!

An odd we town…..this is the view from my balcony:

Just a stop on the road really…for us…and for lots of other folk it seems.

We found a wee bar…serving charcoal grilled meat. But no food until 8.30…(too late for tired cyclists!)..so went for a wander. And could not find anything else so returned to the same place.

Delightful menu translation (electronic menu too…!)

I ran with the mixed grill….including the Spanish Lizard (superb pork tenderloin!)… neither of us however were tempted with Marriage…or the Latvians!!
