I have passed close by Ljubljiana at least six times on my various travels…but I am a bit ashamed to admit that I have never stopped to visit!
And it really is a bit of a gem!
Its castle sits high up on a rocky knob at the confluence of two rivers…which in turn are the focus of the old town, as they both twist around the castle.

Full of life…and lots of peaceful green spaces. Feels good.
Some photos:

…and more of those bloody padlocks!!

This is where the two rivers join….

As I noted yesterday…this is an ace city for bicycles…which led me to look up the most bike-friendly cities in the world. The gold standard measurement is apparently known as the Copenhagen Index.
And most of the top twenty cities are in Northern Europe…no surprises there really! Copenhagen number one…Amsterdam number two!
In ‘Southern Europe’, only Bordeaux (6), Barcelona (12) and Ljubljiana (14) feature.
Only five cities from outside Europe feature. Perhaps least surprising are Montreal (18) and Vancouver (19)….& given the chaos of the two cities I was more surprised to see Tokyo (16) and Taipei (17) included.
But the biggest surprise…..coming in at number 12……is Bogota…!! Who knew? Fascinating!
Otherwise the day was spent blogging, breakfasting and wandering…one funny incident though:
I have had a couple of saddle sores over the past week or two….not very comfortable!…so I have been experimenting….swapping gel seat covers! (I have not had any issue for two years now…and perhaps the gel seat on the older bike was the one to use!). And applying my normal regime of Chamois cream etc……But all to no avail. They are getting worse!
So I went to a pharmacy. “Do you speak English?” I asked. “Yes” was the answer……but there was no understanding of saddle sores at all. And by the time I tried to explain what they were….a queue formed behind me. And the first lady behind me…asked if I needed any help! Her English was perfect….so there we were discussing pustulent sores on my bottom…….which symptoms were then being translated so the pharmacist and everyone else in the queue could understand!! Hahaha! A delicate subject really….but not today!!!
Anyway I came away with two experimental answers…Acne Cream…and Nappy rash cream…hopefully either or both…will work! You probably do want to know!!

I loved Ljubljiana!
laughed over your pharmacy experience…hopefully ya bum is on the mend! xx
