65. Delnice (Croatia) to Ljubljana (Slovenia)

Today was the day we planned to get our bearings issue sorted!! I spent a long time on Rab chasing bike shops…& bearing shops..in Ljubljana…to find the right bearings in stock!! The bike shop in France had confirmed the exact size…& apparently it is not a commonly used size. Typical French (the bikes are both Lapierre).

But….to the surprise of favoured bike shop..I found a bearing shop which had them in stock..so the plan was to pick them up and take them to the bike shop for installation! And to avoid messing up our free day in the city..we hoped to get everything sorted today!

Long story short…we left early!

A good long downhill to the border…

…..right here!

But no formalities as we are now in the Schengen area.

And up and down most of the ride…

…but we never got back up to our starting altitude of 720m.

Just a lovely ride with nice pastoral scenes. Slovenia really is lovely.

We popped into Ribnica en route…sweet spot!!

And this was on the long run down into Ljubljiana.

…and straight to the bearing shop.

English can be very funny language. Imagine learning it. Try this for size!

Since we left Sarajevo..our bearings had been bearing up surprising well. Upon arriving in Ljubljana – over 700kms later – we lost our bearings. We then found our bearings, bearing left and right and were able to find the bearings shop. We left the bearings shop bearing our new bearings.  We did not lose our bearings on the way to the bike shop. The mechanic who replaced the bearings had the bearing of an excited giant…his wife bearing his first child tomorrow. Wonderful!! (And I am sure I have missed a few alternative meanings!! Only a couple of untrue bits! Haha!)

Indeed it was….wonderful, I mean….Ljubljana really is one of the most bicycle-friendly cities….so it turned out to be a lovely series of rides around the city..without in fact losing our bearings at all!

And…guess what? The new bearings worked. The wheel wobbles no more!!! (The guys in Sarajevo had warned us that the bearings might last only another 50km…so it has been a bit nerve-wracking really! They lasted well over 700km!!!!!!

And 2km away was our extraordinary accommodation right here!

Five minutes walk away from the old town….for beers here.

No food….but we had weirdly set our hearts on an Indian…who only did takeaways!! (..best takeaway in Ljubljiana..if you believe the notices!)

Combine the two….perfect!!!!

Great evening with fantastic food!! After ten weeks on the road..you do crave a bit of spice!!!!

Well…I do!!

Just opposite…..no alcohol…..but…..
