79. Jaca to Ainsa

In Hertford, Hereford, and Hampshire, hurricanes hardly ever happen”. This is true!

“The rain in Spain stays mainly in the plain”…is simply not true!! Indeed…as the plains remain parched…and we move deeper into the Pyrenees….the forecast gets worse!

And true enough…it was raining when we woke.

So we delayed our departure a bit….until it eased off!

The first 20kms or so were along this highway….with a brand new cycle path adjacent. The extraordinary thing about it was the volume of signage…warning drivers to take care of cyclists at every turning off the road. To individual houses. To paddocks. Everywhere. Flashing signs. A colossal investment!

And then…the rain started…so we sheltered for a wee while…

…..but then accepted that we were going to get wet! It was not a deluge…but annoying all the same…and disappointing not to get to properly enjoy the magnificent scenery.

This photo is for Martin…knowing his tunnel-phobia! But despite the distance….it was ok! Well-lit…and not a single vehicle passed us in either direction! It certainly helped that it was on a good downhill gradient…so we just raced through!

Interesting views en route…

…but not great conditions to be taking photos!

We were glad to arrive into the very sweet town of Ainsa! And the view from our balcony!

But it continued to rain……

…until about 15 minutes before sunset…when the sun came out to show us how the town is supposed to look!

Good pizza for tea!
