A lovely day!!
The first part of the day…getting out of and away from Bilbao was not great. We were following the same road which we have used on and off all the way from Santiago…BUT – from Bilbao – the neighbouring motorway has become a toll road (free up to here)…so that means that lots of traffic stayed off the motorway! Alas…too busy…thankfully though with wide shoulders!
Thereafter the ride just got better and better.
A big climb….on tarmac…then on a great gravel road…then rocks….mud….and after the recent rain just too slippery!
So we walked a while!! Exhausting!!
We even had to walk some of the downhills…too slippery, loose rocks….tyre treads full of mud!!
Gorgeous scenery though…and we were glad to get back on tarmac again…
……for another big climb….to our overnight stay at Zegama!
Accommodaton still proving difficult to find….but Zegama had lovely rooms attached to a great bar/restaurant. Even came complete with a lift big enough to take the bikes up to the rooms! What a treat!
We played backgammon…..and one of the games was simply extraordinary…possibly lasting an hour!! Almost turned into a stalemate…but Nae triumphed in the end taking the night 3-2!
No rain today!! But the clouds came down….and even though we were under cover our table became wet from the fine misty dew!!
Beige food…still too difficult to find vegetables!! Lettuce and tomato…but that is about it! Same as in France really….good wholesome food quite difficult to find!
You do know that cafes have indoor components to them don’t you?!! 😜
