I think that can count as another double-tonner to finish this stint!
Lots more climbing today….and the hills seemed bigger! But we rarely got above 150 metres…before plunging down to sea level….and doing the same thing over again!
Not as pretty as the last few days…..and the sun disappeared on us!
Spanish heat wave…my arse!!
Nae wore her warm jacket all day!! And she is still feeling far from 100%…her chest infection lurgy still an issue. So we tried an experiment: an all but instant booking with an English-speaking doctor…for a video appointment! And it worked! 39 Euros did not seem too high a price really…and a scrip for antibiotics arrived by email five minutes later! And only five euros for a full ten day course (well…two five day courses hopefully)…so all quite impressive! Fingers crossed they work!
Tyre holding up!
We had a frustrating wait for our apartment to be available…so we took a detour to take the money-shot of the Guggenheim Museum from across the river! The grey skies are a bit disappointing…but it is an impressive building! (I am looking forward to visiting tomorrow…for a proper look around!)
Huge old apartment for us tonight just on the edge of the old town…and thankfully only one floor up…as the lift was – as ever – too small for bikes! Ace accommodation for our two nights here…and a well-earned break!
Interesting neighbourhood too…..hugely diverse immigrant population…bangladesh, indian, chinese, sudanese….and evidently lots of palestinians.
And that last word…askatu….means ‘free’ in Basque. What an extraordinary language! Unlike Catalan…it has no relation to Spanish at all. As Wikipedia says…Basque..”is the only surviving Paleo-European language spoken in Europe, predating the arrival of speakers of the Indo-European languages that dominate the continent today.” I had no idea!! Totally incomprehensible to the most fluent Spanish speaker!
So we enjoyed the cultural melange…having beers with a group of raucus (& very pissed) Cantonese (hilarious to watch)…and moving on to a great Indian restaurant for dinner. Made such a nice change from the standard fare!
