Penis Cola….really? A hard ride today?
The Best Friend Thirst Ever Had. Taste the Feeling.
You might imagine the banter! Actually…those latter expressions are old advertising slogans for Coca Cola!! Maybe they knew!
In reality…it was not a hard ride! And the best day’s riding by far! Finally away from the villa wastelands…and away from the endless beach-side hotels…on tracks through olive and orange groves.
And deserted enough that it was 60km before we even found somewhere for breakfast! Great wee stop….for bacon and cheese sandwiches!
The sun shone for most of the day…but the wind was fierce…and surprisingly bitterly cold!! The saving grace was that for most of the day we had the wind behind us…making today a breeze of a ride!!
And so to Peniscola…a lovely old peninsular town…with the old town climbing up around the old castle. Resident population around 7,000.
In summer….that rises to an extraordinary 150,000! Accommodated in those kilometres of beach-side apartments/hotels! Not sure I would choose to visit then!!
So we are certainly seeing the old town at its best! And staying in a stunning four storey four bedroom town house – with roof terrace – in the old town. Beautifully restored…and all for less than 100Euros/night!
We are all ready for a break!! So we can properly enjoy our palatial accommodation!!
Funny to think that a fortnight ago in Collioure…I was out drinking beers in the evening without any second layer at all. Here…we are all rugged up with thermals and jackets…and still freezing!! Let’s hope the thermometer starts to move soon!!
Great to see you on the road again. Hope it warms up soon. Remember to keep fluids up even in cold weather.
Great to be following your antics once again. I’m sure you’ll be moaning about the heat before too long!
A great read and beautiful photos. You’ve sold Wayne and I on wanting to go there.
A great read Neil, the pictures are beautiful. You’ve sold us on wanting to go there. Keep safe.
Is it wrong to admit that I used to read these posts with fascination, now I’m reading with a fair amount of trepidation!
Is it bad that I used to read these posts with fascination, but now that I be joining you in 5 weeks, I’m reading with a lot more apprehension!
THE trip sounds amazing. Nearly did not recognise the bearded one!
Have safe and fun time.
