4. Sitges to Les tres Cales

We woke up to the pitter patter of rain. Lots of it! And we had well over 100kms to ride!

It had eased a little by the time we left….but it remained cold! And Iain had no waterproofs at all!

We made it to Villanova…before joining the rail trail to Tarragona….and we managed to hold the rain at bay.

It was good to get out of the city…..where we joined extensive beach-side cycle paths. The Spanish really are exceptional at providing for cyclists….and the ride this year has been almost all off-road!

But as we left the beach…..we entered villa wasteland! Thousands upon thousands of villas….stacked side by side awaiting the summer season. But all currently vacant….lending an almost eerie feeling of abandonment.

We were staying in an apartment….second floor again!!…and pleasant enough….but the whole complex was otherwise empty! The view however was lovely….and we were so pleased to see the sun!!

Beers and food at a restaurant about 500m away. A huge place…with well over 200 seats. And three of us were joined by one other family. Weird vacancy again! It did mean that the pool and babyfoot tables were freely available…and I managed to beat both of them!! Haha!

…..and….I have never seen one of these before…..!

Ps….that prior-referenced rail trail?

Almost true!

But it had been so cold and miserable….it made sense! Only for 40kms though! Not surprising our average speed on Strava was so quick!
