63 Igoumenitsa to Alberobello

For all its failings…the ferry did arrive on time! Strava however went to sleep for most of the journey, which lasted a full 8 hours longer!!

Complicated exit from the port and the city…followed by a fairly miserable 30km of dead straight (classic Roman) road…with a short break here (weird place)…

…..on to San Vito dei Normanni….where we stopped for breakfast/early lunch. Joined by a classic group of Sunday cyclists, all lycra’ed up….and straight into heaps of beers!! My sort of cyclists!

And a cavalcade of hundreds of Scooters…..

Nice up and down ride through to  Cisternino …and on this stretch we came across our first Trulli houses/sheds etc. Extraordinary buildings….straight out of a fairly tale really. Not quite hobbit territory…but not far from the mind!

Small ones…

Big ones…

Romantic ruins….

.

Cisternino also interesting…

…..but by then we were knackered after too little sleep, so pushed on the

Alberobello. Trulli-central. Truly spectacular!!….even if it did feel a bit too much like a pastiche of itself…with so many tourists. Amazing to see all the same!!

And when in Trulli country it would have been rude not to…to stay in our very own Trullo. (Note the singular spelling…like Panino/Panini). So very cool (literally too!).

A nice wee town…Trulli aside!
