29. Mostar to Trebinje

25 May 2022

With the heat…and a big day planned…..we were on the road before 6.30…to catch a few hours of coolness. It was with a little trepidation we started today…for it was a long day, and we were both feeling tired after yesterday!

And the first ten kms did nothing to help, as we had to cope with a heavy truck route out of town. Not pleasant!

But thankfully…when our turn off appeared…the trucks went the other way…and the road was delightfully quiet!

Well over 1,000m of climbing to the half-way point at Lubinje….where we arrived at 10am!!

But our first batteries were both well-flat by now..so we opted to top up at a cafe. And we had dilemma…40km more…and another 800m of climbing….or 60km more and just 250m more climbing. The answer came from a friendly policewoman…who said the old road (the short route)…was rough and had all but disappeared!!

So it was an easy ride on to overnight stop at Trebinje…but with 50km along a dead flat valley…it did become a bit boring and equally challenging as a result! And we ended up having completed our biggest day to date!!

We pulled into the town at around 2pm….at a fawlty towers style brand new guest house, sitting atop/amidst a restaurant. Teething problems?…..or more likely a poorly conceived combination!! Very noisy…so not great sleeping!!

A pleasant wee place though….and great food again today.

Like Mostar…the place came to life at around 9pm……a bit late for us!! Prices significantly lower here with a pint of beer down to 1.25 Euros! (…my yardstick!)
