We had 120km to ride to catch our ferry from Calais. So it was an early start!!
And a bit unsettling…to know we had to go that far to catch a ferry!!!!
Lovely misty canals in the early morning…

..our last stop in Belgium…!!

This was a bit of a worry..a closed road!!

Building a new road..as it happened! So we rode through a huge construction site…lost time……
And we arrived at the ferry terminal at Calais with 30 minutes to spare!!
No worries!! But…ACTUALLY….ONLY 30 minutes to spare….after a 120km ride!?
Probably too close for comfort really!!!!
But despite the stories….check-in..passport control etc was a breeze!
It was a really lovely crossing!! And those Dover cliffs…really are very white!!!

Arriving in Dover however was a headache! Usually bicycles get let off first! But no..not with P&O. We had to sit in the “garage” with truck and bus engines disgorging their noxious fumes..for a full half hour!! We HAD to be last off the boat!! Plain silly!!
And then..we were not allowed to follow the traffic..but had to follow a tortuous path..which ended with a locked gate!!!! Why?? No idea!!!!!! Felt like prison UK!
Eventually it was unlocked! And we escaped (it did feel like that!) into the UK!!
And into Dover! What a dump!!
We had to stop here..to get replacement cables for the bike battery chargers! Or we were not going anywhere!
The first shop we went to had one!! Yeeha! But we needed two!!
It took an age…trawling shabby shops before we were sorted.
And thence….to our overnight stop!!
Single-track even…as we climbed up the South Downs!!

Lovely ride really…….

….to the Five Bells…Eastry!!

A classic UK pub…..for Beer, Bed and Breakfast!
Corey’s first taste of real beer! And it was not warm! A session IPA at 3.8%! Just what the doctor ordered!

We put our bikes in their games room…tucked up with the pool table and the bar billiards! Great room…….!

The beer was good……(Corey moved on to Moretti after a couple of pints…haha!)
Classic pub grub…plenty of beer…and bed!
We had been hoping for a cancellation…for they only had one room available when I booked! But alas…no….so for the first time on our trips…we shared a room!! Haha!
And it was hot!
Poor Corey! But the radio put him to sleep….!
