After our exertions of the last few days…..we were looking forward to getting to Rab. Our island destination….for a few days off!!
Nice start to the day……climbing over two set of hills…..
….including this monument to local victims of the war…..
….before pulling in for breakfast at Gospic!
And no…they did not give us the promised 10% discount!! Not bikers…maybe!
And then we had to cross the range of mountains which runs right down the coast here. A bit daunting…
….but it was a lovely ride up….and not too exhausting!
And pretty the whole way…..
A tunnel to finish (seemed a somewhat unnecessary tunnel really…!)
Through the tunnel..to a simply extraordinary view of the sea….with the moonscape of Pag centre stage!
And the prospect of a wonderful 909m descent.
And wonderful it was too.
The pictures just do not do it justice! But this is right up there as one of the best descents anywhere!
That moonscape always just there. And yes…I could not get Sinatra’s “Fly me to the moon” out of my head……as I literally flew down!!

And so to the bottom…
…before a 30km cruise along the coast to our ferry.
Except it was not much of a cruise…..as we had to climb yet again!!
All very lovely!
And this sign was a reminder: Martin I rode down this road three years ago…Krk to Rab to Pag all in one day! And it was horribly, dangerously windy!!
Thankfully today….it was benign! But very HOT…so by the time we reached our ferry….we let two leave…..and instead drank beer!
It is only 3km or so across to Rab!
And then only 10km to our accommodation. A fantastic apartment…but possibly in the wrong place!!
Ten minutes from the beach (which is about nine too many when you are exhausted!)….with a “camp” fronting the beach itself.
Nice spot for beers etc…..
And then we sought out milk…with the only shop available in the camp itself. Strange place!!
Time to explore properly in due course………but for now…time to rest awhile!
