Sadly…only the one full day in Kosovo.
I believe it ranks well bottom of all European countries in terms of GDP…yet somehow if feels much more civilised than – say – neighbouring Albania. Not sure why I say that….it is just a feeling! Interestingly…almost everyone speaks some English (certainly NOT the case in Albania)…and yet Kosovo IS Albanian really. A corner of Serbia populated almost exclusively by Albanians…hence the move to independence (as recent as 2009) after all the tensions between the Serb and Albania communities blew up into the Kosovo war of 1998/9.
On our last visit to Kosovo, we visited Prizren….which vies with Gjakova as the prettiest town in the country. And I do think Prizren probably wins!! Much bigger….but a town which fully addresses its river, and has very a vibrant and cool vibe.
Gjakova on the other hand ignores its river ….and its old town is really made up of just the one street.

Very pretty….

…but really quite limited.

It did not help that our rest day fell on Eidh…an important muslim holiday…so most things were shut. But to be fair…if everything had been open…the ‘interest’ was only one street long.

33+ degrees here today…so this sign was a bit perplexing!! Haha

And I enjoyed this very retro poster! I think the guy on the left in the water has just discovered that his balls are missing!

Sadly….our wonderful grill downstairs is closed today….this is it, our rooms above…

…for most of the staff are muslim.
But the family also run the pizza place next door. Which IS open. I assume the staff there are mostly christian…or atheist of course!
Just as wonderful as the grill it turns out….so all was not lost!!
