A bit sad to be leaving Kyparissi. A real gem! And I vowed to myself to return within two years or so!
It was a fairly daunting start to the day! For the road goes up here somewhere!!
Steep in the village….but the gradient evened out after a while so it was a manageable climb!
But what a road!!
….and simply gorgeous views!!
As you near the top…it really does get hairy!!
Truly precipitous drops from the road side! (I was thinking about John W today….he’d love it! Not!!). Martin and I are not great at heights either so were glad we were going up and able to cling to the cliff face….rather than run along the drop side of the road! And those barriers? For cyclists they are just scary! For if perchance you ‘need’ them….you’d be over the top in a heart-beat! Our centre of gravity is well above the top of the barrier! Message to self: steer clear!
……aaaaagh!
(And this of course is the only road from which you can access that motorway to Fokiano!!)
Coffee at the top…..then a rolling ride…..

…through largely deserted countryside…on completely deserted roads..

That lump to the left is home to the old town and citadel of Monemvasia.
It was strange as we drove over the causeway and up to the entrance…to see heaps if buses, & lots of tourists. When….we had just left one of the real jewels of Greece, which was deserted!! (..of course buses cannot manage that road!!)

…before dropping down to Neapoli….ready for our ferry first thing tomorrow!
Not a huge distance today….but a tiring day all the same! And as we approached Monemvasia….I was thinking about Shennae’s and my epic day in 2022 when we rode from Leonidio to Monemvasia..in ONE DAY! Just her third day of riding!!! Truly mad! And still one of the biggest climbing days ever!
Not a very exciting town…Neapoli…
…but not a bad beach…..and that is our ferry…ready for tomorrow!
