2. Ferry….to Civitavecchia

Not much to report today!

On the ferry……very relaxed…..and not a bad boat at all!

I was a truckie for a lot of the trip!! Whilst us mere mortals are not allowed to smoke inside (fair enough!)…truck drivers have a large bar to themselves…where they can smoke! Go figure!

So I decided to put on my best truckie look…and joined them! I think it was my sandals, shorts and biking jacket that allowed me to fit in!

The drivers were almost exclusively east european.

Made me reflect on Humpty Dumpty somehow…the one who sat on a wall…and had a great fall! If only! If only those photos of Humpty Dumpty enjoying Golden Showers in Moscow would see the light of day…we might properly understand the iron grip Putin has over the narcissistic idiot of an egg-head.

The world is in a funny place right now. And yes…it is a bit scary! How does that quote go?…”The only thing necessary for evil to triumph in the world is that good men do nothing”. It seems to me too many good people are indeed doing nothing…..doing nothing but play the absurd appeasement game the masturbatorial Humpty Dumpty is so enjoying. Except China of course. Ho hum. (That glorious m word was in a recent Guardian editorial…could not wait to use it!!)

But nothing I can do about it really….except keep cycling…keep seeing that almost everyone in the world is a good person…..and keep understanding that the world really is indeed much bigger and more beautiful than plane travel now allows us to believe! Can you imagine Humpty Dumpty on a bike? A Spanish omelette?

It was a good journey overall. Good ferry…with SOO much space given its emptiness. And just SIX euros for (lots of) bacon and eggs and bread rolls…is not to be sniffed at!!!

The weather was worryingly foul..hopefully not a portent for tomorrow…!…(but the sun came out again before we reached Italy!)

But no matter…today!!

The only irritation…was the message to vacate the cabins and prepare for disembarkation ( seriously!!!) a FULL THREE HOURS  before we even entered the port!!!

…& then closing the outside bar two hours before arrival… With everyone kicked out of their cabins, it had never been so busy!! Plain silly! (Everything done to suit the staff! Not the passengers…nor the bottom line company!). Talking of bottoms……

We pulled in to Civitivechia slightly early. And thankfully still light ….as we found our way to our first apartment…a lovely monster of a place…with most of the bells and whistles (no kettle!)….for only 30 euros a room… and a lift big enough for bikes. Luxury!

Stunningly good pizza – and beers – at a delightful family place down the road. 18 euros for both of us…all up!! Really? I am not obsessed with prices…but it never ceases to amaze me at the prices outside the jain tourist hotspots of Europe. You can still buy a superb coffee for 1.00 euro…..whilst in NZ, cafes keep complaining about the price of coffee beans to explain another price increase! Same beans…surely!?

Time for bed!

The serious stuff starts tomorrow!!

The rain has started again on our back to the flat.

God, I hope it is not raining!!

Hadn’t realised that Jainism had made its way to Europe, far less taken over the tourist spots 😜
I’m picking the obscure ruminating is mostly excitement at being on the road again! I do share your worry however…..😘
