81. El Pont de Suert to Llavorsi

I woke at around three in the morning…to the sound of rain! Alas!! Rain! Spain! Pain!

No rush to leave once again!

But it did ease once again at around 9.30….and today we got the whole way without any rain at all (until just after we arrived…!!)

A long climb to start the day……

…but this was a false horizon…

For after a short descent…we were on the way back up again.

Shame about the weather…for it would have looked so much better with some sunshine!

However…the riding was delightful….

After the Port de Perves (!)…..it was just a fantastic downhill…steep and winding to start…

…and then a long brake-free run….

….down to the town of La Pobla de Segur…for coffee and a great bacon sandwich!!

From there it was a long but very gentle climb up to Llavorsi!

Another wonderful ride. Lots of gorges. And here bikes were not allowed in the tunnels…so we were shunted off onto the old road.

Great scenery!

And this but one example of fascinating rock formations…

…apparently the inspiration for Gaudi’s architecture!

All round a great day…despite the dampness and cold temperatures…..

Small Pyrenean towns….

…and villages….

….and to the small town of Llavorsi! This is the view from our balcony! Not a bad place for our last rest day!!

But then of course…it started raining once again!! FFS!

At least the cafeteria was only 50 metres away….and the beer was good…and I won the Backgammon match. Amazingly…it has been 3 games to 2… every time we have played.
