A rest day today…really to allow Martin to enjoy his first visit to Venice….prior known as “la serenissima”…and it possibly is!
Provided of course you are not involved in logistics…and supply chains. It is simply mind-boggling.
Particularly when you start thinking “building”, and associated materials…which must fit in boats small enough to squeeze under the bridges…and then be carted around by hand!
And then…imagine the city getting built originally…long before motors…and where sail power would have been impossible.
I wandered off to the beach before breakfast…but sadly was not allowed on to it!! Classic Italian-style private beach….with a wee public section 600 metres up the road.
So contrary to our thinking about beaches for all!! Looked good though…and I have to note that the Venice waters are looking so much cleaner than prior visits.
After updating the blog…I took the ferry – Line 1 – which wound its way up the grand canal to the railway station. (Is there any more stunning arrival point?)…and then wandered aimlessly back to St Marks.
What a great day!!
So as I thought about logistics…here are some photos….including…buiders ‘vans’, couriers, beer, wine & flower deliveries, ambulance boat, and police boat…and of course rubbish collection! A chaotic mixture of colour and life.
And….again…a surprisingly deserted St Marks square…..:
Loving the photos…oh the memories! 🙂
Very special images Neil, thanks. Good to hear that you are mobile & that the weather seems to have come right! Chrs, A/.
