The wind direction has changed!
What a delight!! Two days ago we exhausted both batteries over 100km. Today we barely used one half of one battery for almost the same distance!! What a difference! So it really was a very cruisy day!
Three roads run up the coast…and we took the ‘small’ one. Not overly interesting actually…with only occasional glimpses of the ocean we were running alongside.
And even this road now being expanded to dual carriageway….so the road works were a pleasant break from the monotony!
Fantastic breakfast at a service station en route…omelette, fresh orange juice, pain au chocolat, bread for Africa (!), cheese, peanut sauce, olives, cafe creme….and the ubiquitous bottle of water…all for the princely sum of 35 dirhams! (About 3 euro).
About 32 km out from Rabat…the road suddenly got better. Marble kerbs. Palm trees. And a long long wall guarded by the army…and we unknowingly rode past the Royal Palace of Skhirat! The king’s summer retreat!
And this wonderful almost empty road then continued all the way into Rabat.
It really is a spectacular arrival. No port here..so just waterfront all the way into the city.
Then we turned off…onto this road….
And one minute later we had arrived at our apartment!! I cannot think of an easier more pleasant arrival into the very heart of a (capital) city…anywhere else in the world!
Looking forward to exploring tomorrow (two nights here).
So we headed off to the local dive bar. They do not keep tabs here…they just leave your beer bottles on the table!
So today we met the challenge of fully filling the table!!! Hahaha
Impressive! But they are really only tiny 240ml bottles…so this lot was only just over four pints each!
Then dinner opposite our apartment! A very friendly end to a very relaxed day on the road!
Very impressed guys
With the cycling that is – not the drinking
