A big day!!!
The first 30km or so was on some of best bike paths you will see. Beautifully surfaced (sealed)…to a standard which would leave all UK/NZ roads to shame. The investment they make into cycleways is simply extraordinary!
And then? A full 60km of oranges!! The scent of oranges is everywhere. Simply vast acreages! Interestingly….a good number of the trees are still laden with fruit…AND blossom! Weird…I thought…until I did a bit of reading…to discover that with huge imports of dirt cheap South American oranges…the value of the crop barely equals the cost of picking…so the fruit is simply unpicked fruit from last year (November to March harvest). Sad really.
And then…Valencia!! Haha…only seven days of riding..land already we have ridden slap bang through the middle of two of Spain’s biggest cities!
Again cycle paths everywhere…so it really is no hassle at all.
The new arts complex is impressive!
Around the port……
…and then along the coast and through l’Albufera park…with the sea on one side…and this on the other…
…to our overnight stop at El Perello. A fairly unpleasant town….with more ranks of empty hotels waiting for Summer to arrive!
Nine out of ten bars etc…just closed!
We were both completely knackered! 127km! Sore bums. Sore legs. So beers were as welcome as ever…and whatever food we could find relatively early (pizza/burger!) before falling into bed by about nine!!
