Bellagio is lovely…but expensive and busy…so we were happy to move on with a lovely meander down the East side of the Bellagio peninsular…to the head (or bottom) of the lake at Lecco. Very narrow and winding road…so we doubtless pissed off plenty of drivers as overtaking was difficult!
We had to overcome our collective tunnel phobia….through two very long (3.5km) unavoidable tunnels!! Gladly they were wider than the road…and quite well lit. Merited a cigarette break once we were through!
A pleasant riverside trail took us another ten kms or so…before we had to brave the roads en route to Bergamo…a lovely town/city where we stopped for lunch. Interesting grape posts en route:
We have left the hills behind now…so fairly easy cycling…onto Lake Iseo. And no sooner had we arrived at Sarnico/Paratico…..the rain started.
Thankfully only 10kms through to Iseo town…where our guest house was part of the railway station! Not very elegant but did the trick.
And thanks to getting lost a couple of times…we had managed to break 100km for the first time!
Very few tourists here…and probably a place popular with the locals during the summer.
Nice wee place…but not as stunning as Como. And not as refined as the locals might believe!
….the view from our bedroom windows!!
