Another hot hot day.
Seriously seriously hot!!
We got away early….and headed for the Sinis peninsular…home of (amongst other things!)…Tharros. An old Greek settlement dating to around 800bc..or earlier.
A good start to the day…and breakfast on site!
Nice ride on…as the gems of Sardinia started to reveal themselves.
40kms or so later…we stopped for coffee etc. Not a bad view!!
And the the climb started!
Half an our in…and Error Code 010 once again! Is it the heat? Whatever it is…it is a worry!! But it was hugely hot again today! Past that blood temperature threshold…so as you rush down hill…it gets hotter not cooler!
So we took a break. To be fair…neither of us were complaining!
All AOK again….!
I had by this time removed my sweat-bucket of a helmet…invoking Spanish rules! There are only three countries in the world (at last count) where bike helmets are compulsory. Rules-loving New Zealand and Australia…and Spain!! But in Spain…the rules are so much more sensible. For you do not have to wear helmet in urban areas. Nor if you are cycling up hill. Nor if it is “too hot”!! Haha!
And it really did help me in the heat. Alan suffered on…for sunburn was possibly a bigger risk!! Hair helps!
On up a hill which in the searing heat…which seemed to go on and on forever…and just as we were about to crest…another full stop, Error Code 010.
I powerlessly pedalled the bike to the top…and rushed to find shade!
Hot…knackered…thirsty etc……but mostly just hot!!
Alan pulled in alongside. He was worse than hot…or knackered. Dizzy even. It was a bit of a worry! He was going nowhere!
And then…this bit was a bit funny actually!…he checked his heart rate. Over 90! He was concerned about a racing heart!
Now…my own heart rate rarely falls below 90bps!!
And we had just climbed up a never-ending hill in 40 degree heat!
Those Youngs! Liz suffers from the same “problem”!!
But to be fair….he was feeling very woozy!!
So we waited a while. Advised our apartment hosts that we were going to be delayed.
I took a pee. Seriously orange!! Would have put a hi-viz jacket to shame! We were both hugely dehydrated!
But thankfully Alan came right…and we started the long downhill….(with a surprising number of uphills)….! All was well!! But Alan was certainly a bit shaken.
And on to Bosa. A great town! Favourite of Sardinia so far! Split into two bits really…or even three! The beach-side town…
…the riverside town….with 18th/19th century buildings lining the river…..
….and the old town with colourful houses climbing uphill to meet the castle!
Really nice feel to the place!
So just as soon we had arrived…I biked off to the beach for a very welcome chill!! Not much swimming to he honest…but a lot of wallowing! And out of the water it was just sooooooo hot, it was almost unbearable….so…back to wallowing!
Alan chilled…and did washing!
Great tagliata for tea (..with wonderful puffy crispbread too!)
And back to the apartment…for a not-very-sleepful night. The aircon in Alan’s sleeping place gave up the ghost completely…and the one in mine started leaking water…all over the bed, the pillows, the floor. Cold was more important to me than dryness, so I soldiered on until the constant drip drip got to me!!
And the fridge managed to turn itself backwards….warming, not cooling, its contents! Hohum!
