A rare treat today…with breakfast at the hotel…and an omelette instead of the usual sweet pastry! So a slightly delayed start…which we would pay for later!
A gentle climb out of Buggerru to start, and an amble along the coast ….before we left the SP83…and headed into the hills off-road.
Great country…but quite a steep and challenging ride it turned out to be. The track was bad enough…but in parts they were making repairs…using the local earth…which was in reality sand! And bikes and sand…really do not mix. Slipping and sliding…we really felt in the middle of nowhere!
Thankfully it did not last as long as feared…and before long we were back on firm ground and a nice hilly road!
It had been hugely slow progress however…and by midday we were but 40km on, and both well into our second batteries with over 60km to go!
But that last 60km turned out to be dead flat…and mostly dead straight! So less battery stress, more…boredom…as we crossed what is perhaps the most fertile plain/valley in Sardinia.
And it was hot! Seriously hot! Not a great few hours!!
There were a few bird interludes….great flocks of egrets…and a few more familiar sights…..
Alan is not a great one for off route diversions…but today I think he was happy as we diverted a few kms off the route…to the beach 10km shy of our destination. Quite a relief really to be out of the sun for a bit…and I needed a quick recharge too! A funny wee place…but it was so good to leap into the sea….and cool down!!
And so on to Orsitano to complete a very hot and our second consecutive double-tonner!
A great welcome into our lovely apartment…6pm by now!….two speed showers…and before long we were had wandered into this nice wee town…and were sat outside this great wee pizzeria.
The ‘world champion’ pizza maker was not cooking today…but his son was (well, that was a guess…but it was certainly a family business!)…and we enjoyed plentiful beers and the best pizza of the trip!
Kids everywhere…and I was presented with lots of stick-on beads! Just because!
