44. Sitia to Eloundas

A 10km climb first thing this morning. Not steep. Probably around 4% gradient. But a strong wind turned it into a tough 14% hill. So by the 10km mark I had already lost three blips (of five….so 60%) of my battery! Only 10km!! That is a new record…even for the incompetent Shimano!!

So with lots of climbing still to go…battery stress crept in!

But thankfully the road (or wind) changed direction sufficiently for me to make it through the day (with just 2km range left!!)

Gorgeous ride though!! With villages perched all over the place!

Rain threatened….(…really!?…)… but held off..and…as one says…”the coast was clear”! And by the last hill we got a good sweat up!!

A nice wee cafe at ‘one’ of the coastal hilltops…..

We had stopped in Agios Nikolaos….for frappes and cheese pies (..getting addicted!)…and also for a visit to a bike shop! Martin has been suffering from a spasmodic slow puncture. But…with tubeless tyres full of sealant…you can see a puncture and there isn’t one….so we diagnosed a faulty valve. Let’s hope it does the trick! Well…..Shennae will be doing most of the hoping…!!

And a short ride past some lovely beaches to our overnight in Eloundas….where we quickly jumped into the sea to cool off…not too far distant!

A nice wee place….but too many ‘could-be-anywhere’ bars and restaurants for my liking. We found a good Gyros place though!!
