11/12 Prizren (Kosovo)

A day of rest!!

We needed it!

Indeed…I cultivated a cold…so – with lots of rain forecast – we opted to stop an extra day.

Very little to report really….lots of chilling…reading….sleeping….so a few pics of Prizren.

But..it is very cold…so for the first time this trip, it was on with the long johns…..and tonight it got so cold we had to retreat to an inside place (where smoking is allowed!!)

And after two nights of typical Kosovan fare….. Qofte/lots of meat…..we enjoyed a spectacularly good Mexican meal. 3.90 Euros for the chicken…and 5.80 for the beef fajitas…with beers at standard 1.50!

And yes…..weirdly….the currency Kosovo uses the Euro as their currency…Leks in Albania…Denar in north Macedonia…..Lev in Bulgaria…and yes, I am writing this down to remind myself….as tomorrow we change countries again……en route to North Macedonia and Skopje…via a ski resort! So we know what that means!

I spied this…on to of the castle…..

…and wondered where the F had gone….(..as in f’ing cold!)….but it is…

….the Kosovan liberation army. A reminder of the war which ultimately resulted in Kosovo’s quasi independence…but also a reminder of the extraordinary complexity of politics in this part of the world. I must read more!

That’s a bugger about the weather Neil. Not looking that flash right into next week either so your long johns won’t be getting put away just yet! I hope that your rest up & good food has dealt with that cold!

I’m tending to binge-watch your progress, so I am totally exhausted having gone from the start of Albania through to Kosovo, whilst trying to sell the house. . . . not sure which is more stressful. I guess excessively long climbs, police and bed-bugs probably trump painful purchasers and paperwork, and certainly more fun, but it looks like we might get there this time.
As Liz says, where would you be without beers . . . it hardly bears thinking about. Important to keep that fluid intake going, particularly while you decimate the chicken population of eastern Europe.
