6. Corinaldo

A lazy morning after Roby had supplied us with a huge breakfast…and Mrs Roby kindly took our washing…..Before I wandered into town to explore.

Apparently Corinaldo was voted the prettiest village in Italy in 2007. And it is indeed stunning! But….amazingly given the accolade…it is 100% free of ANY tourist tat!! Just an ordinary village, which just happens to be gorgeous! If this were in Tuscany…instead of the unfashionable Marche region…it would be mobbed!

Difficult to take the photo to explain it…so this one is from a postcard (can you tell?)

And it was a mission to find even that one postcard (a promise to myself to send postcards to Fred and Walter). I wandered everywhere to no avail…and then tried the Tabacchi….and they had three for sale!

So to the cafe to write my messages…before heading off to the Post Office. To New Zealand I said. It was hilarious as the post woman called over to her colleague…who shrugged. And he then called up someone else…and eventually she came back to me to confirm that all the stamps (“it is very far away”)…were going to cost 6.70 euros!! Over $10.00! Incredible really!! Perhaps not so very surprising that you cannot buy a post card!! (Anna…do let me know if/when they arrive! You might expect super-express at that price, but I somehow doubt it!

Otherwise…a lazy day….in preparation for our 50km hop to Ancona tomorrow and our ferry to Albania…where the unknowns multiply once again!

And for dinner…? Back to that wonderful restaurant once again! I Tigli…if you ever happen across Corinaldo…. with the same Black Roses starter (more precisely…pasta stuffed with rabbit, green peas cream, goat cheese, confit of tomatoes and chilli pepper…with saffron roses to boot!)…

followed today by tryptich of organic black piglet… really very special…with wine and beers still less than 30 Euros a head! A worthy splash…in preparation for ferry food tomorrow!!

Now up to date with the tough time you guys have been having, all that Italian food, cake, beer and Italian culture – it’s a tough life, but someone has to live it. I look forward (vicariously) to Albania.

Thanks for confirming the blog Neil. Great to get caught up on Iain’s & your Italian journey. Your earlier notes on getting on and off Italian trains with bikes brought back some not so pleasant memories! All the best for the next leg of the journey in Albania!

This post brought back the PTSD from my own experiences trying to deal with the Italian postal system, not to mention the thought of those overnight ferries… Hope you got tickets with the good company…!!!

    Food looks smashing!
