What a day!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By far the shortest day of the trip was planned today!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So a slow star seemed just fine\u2026\u2026which got even slower when we arrived at the ferry\u2026to be told that only four bikes were allowed on each (half hourly) ferry! So an hour of waiting\u2026and eventually we were on our way to Punte Sabbioni\u2026and back to the \u201cmain\u201d land!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

But then\u2026\u2026.as you will see from the map\u2026we got completely mis-mothered! (And not really by Google)\u2026..!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each of those prongs was a dead end requiring a long back track! So\u2026.the planned\u2026easy\u202646km\u2026from PS to Caorle became 88km!!!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And this\u2026..after our second misdirection\u2026..and none of the signs were correct!! Classic!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So\u202630+ km into our ride\u2026and we were all but back where we started!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The issue – it turns out – was that we were \u201cfollowing\u201d lots of cyclists doing a well known circular route (which required a ferry!)\u2026which was – to be fair – very lovely, through the wetlands of the Venice delta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And\u2026.I have now visited Italy many times\u2026and cycled many thousands of kms (you see everything!)\u2026but I had never seen a buffalo!! All those mozzarella pizzas etc! Today\u2026at last..I just had to take a photo!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A future bike path\u2026is looking good\u2026.! But not yet quite ready\u2026so more backtracking!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Interesting toll bridge en route\u2026\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

\u2026.and look at those \u201cwhitebait\u201d nets, and support structures!!! Incredible!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once we did reach the coast route\u2026we were faced with\u202620km?..could have been more\u2026.of the \u201cLido di Jesolo\u201d. Just an awful string of beachside hotels (all with \u201cprivate\u201d beaches)\u2026.and all deserted! A ghost town of hotel after hotel after hotel\u2026and they are still building more!!! Quite incredible really (that they can evidently make their return in three (..possibly less?)..months per year!! The Italian Riviera at its absolute worst!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those distances aside\u2026it was a good day. Mostly on cycle paths\u2026and altogether good\u2026with very fine weather.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As we approached Caorle\u00a0\u00a0(well spoken about\u2026so we were looking forward to it)\u2026the hotels started again\u2026and the same pattern emerges..extending for some kms each side of the town itself. Thankfully again deserted\u2026allowing the small old town to be very pleasant really! Very bright and colourful! (..but I am not sure I\u2019d want to be here when the kms of adjacent hotels were full!!).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We even swam in the sea upon arrival\u2026but \u201cswimming\u201d might be a bit of a stretch\u2026for the water simply was not deep enough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And how is this for an accompanient to apperitivo!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And for tea? Chinese!! Time for a change\u2026and very good it was too!! One for Alan!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
