A day of three halves today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Firstly\u2026a 40km run into the heart of Barcelona\u2026with most of it a repeat of yesterday\u2019s last leg. Railway line and all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But as we got close to the city centre\u2026.lovely wide avenues with bike lanes travelling down their middle. It really is a super-bike-friendly city!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coffee stop at the 40km mark\u2026..right beside Sagrada Familia.

Work continues apace\u2026with \u2018completion\u2019 due in 2026\u2026to celebrate the centenary of Gaudi\u2019s death\u2026.144 years after the first stone was laid!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The view was great\u2026but the coffee very ho hum served by particularly grumpy waiters, charging three times the going rate!! Welcome to the the tourism hot spot of Barcelona!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The next 30kms or so was a blast\u2026as we raced straight through the city centre\u2026on fantastic bike lanes. It was a Sunday too\u2026.so very little traffic to upset the flow!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The third stage followed the coast.

The railway had headed inland\u2026.so it was a lovely ride along the beach\u2026.before climbing into the hills and a fantastic – if too short – section of cliffside-hugging corniche\u2026.which then dropped down into the heart of Sitges\u2026our overnight stop! And after a very cloudy day\u2026the sun came out!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Confidence in the bikes is growing!! The anxiety-filled first two days\u2026have now given way to faith in our steeds!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sitges is a lovely wee stop\u2026..renowned as one of Europes\u2019s gay capitals not that we noticed\u2026with great beachfront, and impressive old town! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a brief wander around the town\u2026..we met up with Joe\u2026.a friend of Iain\u2019s, who had made the trip from Barcelona: Commercial pilot, snowboarder and all-round adventurer! (They met on a chairlift in Andorra!)\u2026so lots of yarns about flying 747s into Central African Republic and so many places besides!! His message for the nervous flyer: Airbus have just as many issues as Boeing\u2026but they just get less publicity!! And he has no worries about flying with either!! Fascinating guy!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fun evening\u2026..but I retired to leave the guys heading off to watch El Classico soccer: Barcelona vs Real Madrid!! (Old fart however had to stay awake to let them into our apartment!).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hilarious end of the day when toothpaste-less Iain asked Corey for some. Corey threw a tube at him\u2026noises off of brushing teeth\u2026.followed by a squawk of horror as Iain discovered that the tube was not toothpaste at all. I am not very sure how well \u201cSoov\u201d works on teeth..but it is just fantastic for saddle sores!!!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
