Another quasi rest day today\u2026in that we were diverting from the journey\u2026but not such a quiet day really!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So we have come over to Ithica\u2026.Kefalonia\u2019s immediate but much smaller neighbour, and home of Odysseus\u2026.as Homer..or legend would have it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An early ferry\u2026much more in the style of Greek ferries of yore\u2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

\u2026.for a quick potter to Pisoaetos, the main port for the island\u2026but little more than a lump of concrete really!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

And then we just started riding! North first\u2026.again hugely hilly\u2026.but beautiful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

We stopped at Stavros\u2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

\u2026.the islands second biggest village\u2026where a bakery lured us! More pies!! Chicken and cheese, mushroom and cheese etc\u2026god, they\u2019re good!! You would not want to eat so many if you were not biking\u2026but we feel like we are earning the right!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Down to Frikes (I\u2019ll just let the pictures do the talking!)\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2026.and over to Kioni. What a gem!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2026with a couple of lovely beaches too\u2026. Swim one!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

We were having a post-swim drink back in Kioni\u2026and saw this (just to right of Nae), 15m(?) from the wee beach\u2026to her left!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Hmmmmmm\u2026.a project? For on balance\u2026I have to admit\u2026.Greece is SO much better than France!! And Ithica is (another!) very special corner of it!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Back down the road we came on (only the one road here!)\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2026and over another small hill to the \u2018capital\u2019 (village) of Vathy, a spectacular natural harbour. Not as pretty as Kioni\u2026but still pretty pretty!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

We had not booked anywhere\u2026.so tracked down an apartment available on Booking (without using Booking!). Such a sweet lady!! Apologising for everything\u2026.for asking July rates instead of June, for apartment not ready etc etc\u2026.but all sorted using voice translation (an amazing tool really!). And she\u2019ll be back with home-made pastries for breakfast at 7..and to say goodbye at 8. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She advised us of the best nearby beach to visit (& supplied a beach towel..!)\u2026.& this was not it\u2026but just one we passed on the way!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another fantastic swim\u2026\u2026heavenly place! You really have to pinch yourself!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hot today\u2026..lots of hot climbing\u2026and swimming\u2026..salt in the eyes\u2026.feeling really quite tired\u2026.!! (..yes the weather has come right!!)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
