Turkey is famous for its wonderful breakfasts, so I had been looking forward to our first delight! Well\u2026I had been, until we arrived in our hotel\u2026.and feared that as the only guests in this decaying chintz\u2026we might be lucky to get any at all!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I was half right!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A piece of tasteless luncheon meat, a slice of packaged cheese\u2026.some dry salad bits\u2026.one piece of bread\u2026and some butter and jam were presented on a cling-filmed plate. And that was it! And a glass of black tea. Better than nothing\u2026but not the Turkish wonder I had thought about when \u201cbreakfast included\u201d appeared on the booking!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Iain had a sore gut\u2026so did not have any at all. Probably wise!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We made up for it however 45kms on\u2026.when we were both gasping for a coffee!! This wee gem looked completely closed! And it was only as we started to ride away that the owner appeared\u2026and waved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And out of a tent she somehow provided great coffee, spinach crepes, fried eggs and chips!! Delicious!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We were back on the motorway today. And whilst not the most scenic or interesting ride\u2026.the hard shoulder was huge\u2026so for hours one never felt the wind of passing traffic. Indeed there was hardly any traffic at all!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And almost all of it honked their horns\u2026.and waved in encouragement! (We have seen no cyclists since that pair in Samokova!)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

75kms down, and we finally left our motorway comfort zone\u2026for a bit of off-roading\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

\u2026.and 25kms on a \u2018normal\u2019 road\u2026..with a steep 350m climb which popped out of nowhere\u2026..before our hurtle down to the coast, to the lively wee town of Sarkoy, and a welcome beer.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sunny today\u2026but still not describable as warm really\u2026but we needed some hydration! (Third time lucky\u2026with the first two places not serving alcohol)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our overnight stop was 13kms further down the coast\u2026a stretch requiring very careful battery management! It was a great cycling day actually\u2026\u2026but for the WIND! And it was surely that which sapped our power! We have been particularly unlucky with the wind direction\u2026or maybe easterlies usually prevail here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Upon arrival we immediately went to the little nearby supermarket\u2026for some provisions\u2026but very specifically for BEER! Tomorrow is election day! And the sale of alcohol is prohibited!! (Funnily enough Liz and I were here in Turkey for the election in 2014 when Erdogan won the presidency – having prior been prime minister! – but we were staying in a hotel which was happy to turn a blind eye to the alcohol ban!).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is going to be interesting to see what happens! The polls suggest Erdogan is going to lose this time. But he is no loser\u2026.so I do wonder how the results will be massaged. There will certainly be a lot of unhappy people\u2026either way\u2026..and one cannot help but feel there will be trouble! Let\u2019s hope it is not where we are!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A pleasant end to the day\u2026and it was certainly a bit more lively than the Greek coast had been!!.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2026.but we were both so tired\u2026we opted for a takeaway\u2026with no idea what we were getting!! No meat alas\u2026but it was ok!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
