<\/figure>\n\n\n\nThis first photo\u2026of our street will also forever bring back the other memory of Plovdiv. Our flat was on the right\u2026.directly opposite the bell tower on the left!! And this wee campanalia sprung to life three times day!! Thankfully at the relatively respectable hours of 8am, 9.15am and 5pm. Times etched in my memory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For it released indeed a campanological cacophony! (\u2026is there such a word as \u201ccampanological\u201d\u2026? If not, there should be!). So difficult to describe\u2026but the background was a four note descending round which was in itself quite tuneful (maybe even C, G, E, C)\u2026.then add in before and between each note an off-tone bell an octave higher\u2026maybe b-flat). And then imagine each round of nine dings played in staccato fashion over less than two seconds\u2026then repeat 24 times (..yes, I counted it!).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And\u2026being but metres from our windows\u2026the whole place literally reverberated as if you were inside the bells!! It was extraordinary!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Iain was asleep at 8am\u2026..but was certainly wide awake within a second of the first round starting!! (\u2026hmmmm..certainly more efficient than that iPhone of his\u2026\u2026!!)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hilarious really! And certainly cacophonous!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Anyway\u2026..some more photos\u2026.but sorry none overly exciting\u2026.for it wasn\u2019t!<\/p>\n\n\n\n We did washing (no drying rack\u2026.and wet outside)\u2026so our living room had the aircon on full blast with clothes draped everywhere!<\/p>\n\n\n\n The bathroom tap fell off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Memories of\u2026Plovdiv!<\/p>\n\n\n\n We did venture out for beers and food\u2026and found a covered place with heaters! All good\u2026until the gas ran out\u2026and the proffered blankets just did not cut it really. STEAL was a good distraction\u2026\u2026(I2, N1 once again, alas!)\u2026but the food was very average\u2026..so we were not sorry to return to our sauna of a Chinese laundry!<\/p>\n\n\n\n I retired to bed to read\u2026while Iain stayed up to watch the Champions League semi-final. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Our escape from\u2026..Plovdiv\u2026!<\/p>\n\n\n\n A shame really\u2026.for Plovdiv\u2026is indeed most people\u2019s Bulgarian highlight.
