Why Tuttlingen? Just a name on the map really…sort of half way to Strasbourg…where I do want to stop!
A relatively easy day today……meandering around the lake for most of the day (around 80km of it)….but we both missed the hills…for they provide a nice rest when you go downhill again!! So today we were pushing the pedals all day…!!
Overall….a very mellow day really…..

…..some nice views across the lake…..

….pleasant spots….

…and villages en route….

But a distinct lack of drama after our days in the Alps!
Except…..rain had been threatening….and it did rain…..and we did get quite wet…stopping here for coffee to dry out as the rain passed.

We had heard thunder in the distance…not nearby……but then we came across a place which had evidently been hit by a weather bomb!! I believe that is a bit of a silly and overused description of sudden weather events…but we arrived into this village……and it was covered in hail stones! Like a foot deep!!

Extraordinary!
For this “event” had only occurred over a distance of about 200 metres!!!
And either side of the village there was no evidence of hail at all!! I think a weather bomb is indeed an apt description here…it really must have been quite frightening when it exploded!!
We did come across one hill towards the end of the day…as we climbed out of the Rhine basin….and crossed the watershed into the Danube basin. The rivers here can be no more than 30km apart! Amazing really…when one runs up to the North sea and the other runs to the Black Sea!

And so…finally a wee downhill into the town of Tuttlingen…which sits astride the Danube……into an air-conditioned hotel…to make up for the hot (not) sleeping in Lochau! Luxury!!
The “Danube” was a bit disappointing though!!

A stagnant pond!!!! Haha!!
The town was OK……beers on the river for 4.50Euros…..
…..and at the gelateria..for just 4Euros!

BUT…this is Germany…21st century…no card accepted at the bar…at the Gelateria…or at our food place!!!!!!!!!
I took them to task for they were accepting cards from locals! You know me!! “Only German cards”. But they kept presenting their machine with no numbers entered!!!! It did not work! (…surprise!!??).
I insisted they put the price into their machine!
They called the police!!!!
It was classic!!!!!!
As I advised…Visa works everywhere!
But not…apparently in Germany….the most advanced economy in Europe!! Beggars belief!!!
I gave up…& paid cash!!!
But it was good fun!!
They cancelled the police!!!!!
And we left with a hug…
SOOOO very strange though!!!!
And then…a bit fired up I was…I ordered a coffee at the hotel. Room number ? Name?
I gave my name.
“No” was the response!!
I thought they had the names muddled so gave them Corey’s room number.
“No”…!!!!! Even though I had booked and paid for both rooms!!!!!
(…both rooms were now in his name!!! Haha!)
FFS..!!!
Not my day…!!!
Time for bed….!
