A day of breakfasting and wandering……
Ioannina has a fascinating and complicated history…Hellenic, Byzantine, Ottaman….and has only been part of Greece since 1913….after the ‘first’(?) Balkan war. The history of the Balkans is just so complicated…I am not going to start!
Anyway…that varied history…of a city located on the shore of Pamvotida Lake…has created a beauty!
Lovely old town contained within the old city/castle walls…
……mosques (now museums)…
Simply a place with a really pleasant vibe…..and growing quite quickly so evdiently a happening place!
After five wonderful weeks…this was my last night in Greece!! Alas!
So the heavens celebrated!!
And so did we…with beers…and gyros…of course!!
