17. Levida to Tyros

After our big day yesterday…today/tomorrow’s rides are now a bit shorter!

And they needed to be! I woke up in the night…and some bloody numskull (the Beano, remember..?) had turned a tap on in my right nostril. And it was just streaming! That cold…was back with a real vengeance!! Miserable!! And it kept on streaming…all night….and all day!!

Add to that a morning temperature of about eight degrees…..wind…and a descent over the day of around 1,700m…. it is not a great recipe really….for head colds!! (Did somebody mention Norway…Arctic Circle…?)

It was a nice fast ride though!!

Lovely scenery….

…down to this fantastic stretch of coastline….one Shennae and I have cycled before….and known by some as part of the best bike ride in Greece!

And we dropped into Tyros at the very hospitable hour of 2pm….for I was ready for a proper siesta!

Still hugely and unpleasantly windy here…keeping the temperature down to….too cold!!

So here I am writing this…in southern Greece..in May……wearing long johns! FFS!

The forecast is good. Fingers crossed!

This place is a Greek family holiday destination…so their season is so short. July and August. Today it is largely closed.

You have to love this sign!! Shame…that place was closed too!! So no pannycakes for brekfast!

Such a shame…for it is a sweet town on one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world!

The manager – to-be-owner – of our ageing (mostly empty) hotel….was simply delightful. When we were turning in (early!) we asked if she might have some milk, for the mini-mart was closed! Of course, she said…heading outside…and jumping on her scooter….and heading off into the darkness! Only to return  ten minutes later….with a litre of ice cold fresh milk!!

No charge.

If only Tyros had more out-of-season visitors…she will do well! What a gem!
