76. Pamplona

Poor old Nae did the running today…to the toilet!

No bull…!

No Bulls either…!

We are of course six weeks late for the annual fiesta…but I did walk the route. All 875m of it!!

Apparently the famous bull-run lasts between just two to six minutes!!

And it happens each morning during the eight day festival. So….probably around just 30 minutes of excitement…per YEAR…which drives 1,000,000 tourists to descend on the city…. to pay inflated prices…for probably inadequate accommodation! Not a bad bit of marketing really!!

It’d be good to see it….but count me out as a runner! And…I was sort of surprised that in the longest stretch of the run…there are no barricades at all….so you are either part of it…or you cannot see much of it at all!

Pamplona seems like a cool town. Certainly busier and more lively than…..but not as diverse as…..Bilbao. But possibly a better city to experience a bit of Spain! (…outside the festival period!).

I paid a brief visit to the ‘famous-in-Pamplona’ Iruna

Cafe…and great example of late 19th century Spanish cafe…and ‘another’ favourite haunt of Ernest Hemingway! What a soak he was….! There are bars all over the world laying claim to be Hemingway’s favourite!! Venice, Paris, Cuba, Florida etc etc!!

‘Flamenco on Fire’ festival was on today…so I joined the throng to listen to some singing (no room for dancing up on the balcony!)….a nice way to spend some time….after a too-big brunch!

Otherwise…a rest day. Washing, blogging, reading…etc…in our very cool apartment!

Creatures of habit…Nae and I…and we returned to the same bar for beers and pinchos…but she did not even finish her first beer…before she returned to our apartment…for a little running relief!

Bullshit!

Hopefully, she’ll be right by tomorrow. (She was!)
