55. Fratel to Monsanto

It was cold when we started out.

And got a lot colder as we climbed a few hundred metres…into the clouds!! Fog! But thankfully a very quiet road.

Down the other side….and we were into bright sunshine and clear blue skies!

I must admit that I had not expected to be wearing a warm jacket in inland Portugal in June! The original plan was to ride through the middle of the country…and if it did get too hot…we would move down to the coast!! No worries on that score!!

We had an uncomfortable 10kms or so when the road narrowed…and the traffic seemed to increase! But after a major turn-off to Spain, all was well….

…..and we enjoyed a delightful last 20kms or so.

Were these standing stones? Or just stones stood up!?

Lovely scenery….

…..as we approached our rest-day destination of Monsanto…visible from many many miles away!

More on this wonderful little village tomorrow!

…….not a bad place for a few beers….(..that umbrella at the top!)

Oh…and the Euchre score is now 3-1 (each set best of three 11-point games). John is worried he is running out of time to catch me!!
