45. El Rocio to Huelva

Amazingly…today was the very first day without needing a warm layer to start the ride!!

Thankfully…..we had planned another short day to get John into the swing! After yesterday…neither of us could have managed anything else!

And thankfully today was just as easy as planned!!

We did however make a special point of avoiding roads which threatened sand!!

Our first stop – in the whole of our ride through Spain – adjacent to a vineyard?!!

A coffee stop at Niebla (preparations for a festival?)…

…and we were at our Huelva apartment before 1pm.

An easy day!!

Huelva is famous for one thing….the adjacent port of Palos de la Frontera…the launching point of Columbus’ (an Italian…NB)…first voyage to the Americas! (Ironically…his third voyage was launched from Sanlucar…whence we took our ill-fated ferry yesterday!).

So here is his statue…but otherwise…Huelva does not exude greatness.

But we had a fine relaxed evening…without the dazed exhaustion of yesterday!

Anna will love this! A guy set up a toy “library” directly opposite all the bars in the main square! He did a roaring business. The mothers had a fine old time! Sunday evening! Hahaha!
