42. Jerez

A very chilled…lovely city!

Calm squares…

…and cool streets….

Famous for the Royal Equestrian School (Andalusian horses…), Flamenco…….and of course…Sherry!

So – unusually for me really – I decided to have a look at all three!

First, the Royal School.

And what a thrill. Set in a palatial (literally) garden…

…where one could freely wander around and watch the riders/horses practising etc….

…see the saddlers at work….

…horses exercising….

….all on preparation for the big ‘show’…”How the Andalusian Horses Dance”.

It was extraordinary…the control…the relationship between horse and rider….but photos were difficult…so this will have to do!

And most of the show…they were not riding the horses…just showing the control etc…

What a facility though.

And then…after a siesta…Iain and I went for beers (2 Euros a full pint!!)…

….and off to the renowned Tabanco El Pasaje. A bar….with regular flamenco shows !

It was fantastic!! Fixed ‘menu’ included four big “raciones”, two beers each….and – the killer- a full bottle of sherry between us! Hahaha. All for 30 euros a head!

Oh…and the most extraordinary flamenco performance!

The focus on the dancer’s face….

….and the feet…moving at unbelievable speed…

We had expected it to be full of tourists…but we were the only non-Spanish speakers there..

 It was a delight!!
