Another big day…to test sore bums…and tired muscles.
But it was simply a lovely ride. Off-road almost the entire day…following trails, rail trails, tracks and lanes. Crossing fords and meadows. Perfect cycling!
Until we hit the coast…..when it became tedious…albeit only for the last 20kms or so. Riding along the beach-front road….except that between the road and the sea was a mainline railway track….with only very occasional beach access and even less occasional views of the spectacular beach. And inland from the road was almost constant urban development. Huge numbers of apartments and hotels…almost all closed up and waiting for the start if the ‘season’ in May.
It is weird…with SOOOO much accommodation available……accommodation for three of us with three bikes has been very challenging to find. Simply…everything is closed!!
Arenys itself was just a convenient place to stop. Not a place to visit…nor to return to…nor even to photograph really….with the constancy of the railway blocking all access to and views of the beach just nearby!
Our second night…and our first apartment! On the second floor…..with a lift which was too small for bikes…and a tiny winding staircase! I was grateful to be travelling with the lads….who are usefully much stronger than I….and did the heavy lifting for me!!
I was knackered…and left the boys at the bar/restaurant playing pool. But they were back and ready for bed by 9.30! We are all feeling it!!
