…forever remembered…as Error Code…0 10!
Actually …it was an (almost!) delightful start to the day!
Spocello..that must-see place was but 10kms to the West. After the trials of yesterday…Alan understandably decided to sleep in…so I set off alone, around 7.30am.
300m up…and down…with a lovely breakfast en route.
….only to find my destination was privately owned …and closed until 10am!!
Ho hum….
This is it!
Very pretty..but a bit disappointing!
So back up …and down….. to our apartment…just down there….
….for an earlier than expected start (I had been hoping go have an early morning swim at this gem!)…
alas….
It was …largely…a lovely ride through to Palermo…relatively quiet roads….and over a big hill (which all the main roads avoided).
2km from the top…..and my bike died! Completely! Error Code…0 10.
Memories of Morocco with Andrew D…when the bloody-minded “I-am-not-going-to-get-a-taxi” Andrew spent the whole day pushing his dead bike up hills and riding down……only for us to discover the five second fix…just as soon as we had internet connection!!!
But, here in Sicily, we did have internet connection…..and a quick look suggested..that this could be fatal. A dead battery?(..it was fully charged)..or just maybe a bad connection. Yesterdays mud….maybe? Hopefully!?
So…I took the battery out….alas, the connections looked just fine.….so I laid it on the ground. Hoped. And had a cigarette!
Put it back in. And it worked!! Who knows what the problem was! A bit of a worry…but it was going again!…just in time for a beautiful long 650m descent into Palermo…..our jumping off point for the ferry to Sardinia tomorrow.
The top of the hill was relatively pleasant, temperature-wise…but as we descended into the Palermo basin..it got hotter and hotter! So it was not long before we were re-hydrating at a nearby bar!! Which was indeed the extent of our Palermo experience! (Alan spent three days here en route to Pizzo, and I spent a couple of nights here four years ago….so no major guilt!!).
Alan off to bed early…and by the time I returned to our great apartment….at around 10.30…the city was just starting to wake up!! Really good vibe!
